The Sol Abroad staff has our children's safety and well being as their #1 priority. Our son was a struggling Spanish II student before the trip, and after the trip received straight A’s in Spanish. Your program, staff and host families are fantastic and Joe has benefited beyond our wildest expectations. "

Thank you all at Sol Abroad for being so conscientious in your jobs and for being so patient with the worrisome Moms back in the states. The girls had a wonderful experience, made many new friends, and have great memories to last a lifetime. Sammy has finally arrived on Nantucket! Long trip home, but all went according to plan. Thanks to all at Sol Abroad!

To whom it may concern, I have sent all 3 of my kids Aaron, Lauren and Annie on a Sol Abroad program
I have always believed in SOL Abroad and rightly so... it provides great experiences, great learning, and great opportunities for kids to grow up and believe in themselves. Now I have first hand experience with the talented, kind, and compassionate directors you provide.
My daughter had a challenging transition into the program. Although she was excited, she was unsure of her Spanish skills and was nervous not knowing any of the other students. The on-site director and her team were able to help my daughter work through her concerns. They kept in contact with us and kept an eye out for her. The host family was supportive and kind and my daughter grew close to them. She became confident in her Spanish skills as the weeks passed. In the beginning, she was unable to communicate with the host family in Spanish, but in the end, she was conversing easily with them. My daughter made great friends and experienced first hand that she can work through just about anything.
My daughter’s successful experience with SOL Abroad helped her believe in herself and set her up beautifully for her transition to college. We can't thank you enough for providing such a high quality program.
The SOL Abroad program, without a doubt, is an amazing program. Not only did my daughter (17) study in Granada, Spain for a summer, but her older brother studied there two summers in a row as a 15 and then 16 year old.
The Spanish program at the University of Granada is superb. My son exited the program being certified as a native Spanish speaker. Just the other day he was speaking about his 300 level college Spanish class that he is taking -- he says he is "head and shoulders" above the rest of the class because he actually thinks in Spanish, which he said most certainly is because of his study abroad experiences. The University of Granada not only taught language but culture as well.
The out-of-class cultural activities were lots of fun. Between the three years that our family has participated in the program, they have done such fun things as Flamenco dancing, cooking, hiking, canyoneering, watching a bull fight, visited Arabic baths, and participated in cultural sightseeing just to mention a few. Many days and weekends are filled with group activities such as these.
The students are shown around town on the first day in Granada (after the weekend in Madrid) and then they are expected to get to class independently each day (everyone walks everywhere). There is a fair amount of free time that the students can use to relax, shop, get together with other students for a movie or tapas, or just hang out. The city has been described to me as a safe college town. SOL Abroad provides a wonderful packet to read which gives the students information on everything; including what to wear in Granada and what to expect when you get there. There is also safety information describing to the students how to "be smart" as you would to any tourist in a foreign country.
My daughter (and son) felt safe at all times. They traveled in groups and made many close friends. They both liked their host families a lot and each time they had a roommate (or two). The host family is a great source for cultural and language learning.
The Granada directors were easily accessible and helped out with anything that may arise... for the parents and the students alike.
This program changed my kids lives... they have become confident, independent, young people and now are eager travelers, and they are certainly better Spanish speakers. I cannot think of a thing I'd change about the program and what it offers. I trust them completely with my children. With that said, they both entered the program eager to learn and explore. I also know students that went just for fun and learned very little -- it's like life... it's all what you bring to the table.
