This trip helped me grow as a person and become more independent. It also gave me a feel of what it is like to have a roommate which was also extremely beneficial for me to experience since I am considering going to a university after I graduate. I got to study a language I am hoping to minor in in college which will influence my academic future and hopefully help me get into the college of my choice. Going to a foreign country and being away from home is always hard, but I am glad I got to be apart of this program and study abroad. "

Spending every day in Granada allowed me to make the shift between translating my ideas into Spanish to thinking in Spanish. This trip has created profound memories that I will never forget. Since I am only 15, I have so much ahead of me. I feel like this experienced changed my life forever since I have now seen a part of Mexico I had never seen before, and experienced a new culture. I feel like this experience will make me view my life differently for the better, and now I know all I have to be grateful for. This experience has also furthered me in my goal to become fluent in Spanish, since that has been my goal since I began Spanish in 6th grade. I feel like since I've been here, I have progressed academically in a way I could never do so in the U.S. "

Keep your mind open to trying new and different foods and activities. Take advantage of the city and explore! With the time you get to spend can be as great as you like as long as you go out and venture! During my free time, I always went out, went I different markets, artesian shops, cafés, libraries, churches and more! Make the best of the great city you are in! And make an effort to know the locals, they are so friendly and welcoming that all you want to do is get to speak with them more and enjoy their company! Be prepared to have the time of your life! You will fall in love with your city, make new friends, try new foods, and explore many different places! I can say in confidence that you will want to stay even longer and come back in the future! Make the best of what is offered and go forth! "

Take Oaxaca by the hand and never let go. This experience is bound to change your life. You will arise from it a completely changed human being and you will be happier than you ever thought possible. When coming in to this program, you must have an either undying or underlying love of the language. The language is what shapes this trip and it is a connection that you will have with this trip and this place for the rest of your life. I spent a month here, with some of the most incredible people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I feel like the luckiest person in the entire universe to be able to say that I got to live here. Oaxaca is the most inspiring, beautiful, diverse place that I have ever been and I have learned more in the 4 weeks that I have been here than I have in the (almost) 4 years I have been in high school. This experience made me more independent, more tolerant and it taught me a lot about, not only art, history, Spanish (among hundreds of other things), but about myself. I can most definitely see myself in Oaxaca again, quite possibly with SOL abroad. Experience everything and smile always. Don't ever think you're too good or too experienced for anything and don't feel embarrassed to salsa the night away or butcher a story in spanish. Everything is poco a poco my friends. And to Oaxaca, I would like to say, I love you. Thank you so much for allowing me to love you. Here is an invitation to the rest of my life and I really hope you can make it. "

Sol is an amazing program that will provide you with an ideal schedule with the perfect amount of excursions and free time to explore the city for yourself. In order to get the most out of a program like Sol you have to put yourself out there and really immerse yourself into the new culture in order to fully get all the benefits. Being open minded is a must. "
