" I would like to strongly recommend that your school consider a relationship with Sol Abroad. I find them to be a resourceful, sound company to do business with that truly seeks to provide students with an unforgettable and valuable experience. In the summer of 2012, I personally enrolled in a study abroad experience with Sol in Oaxaca, Mexico. As an educator who serves a great deal of Spanish-speaking students, I wanted to improve my command of Spanish. I found the experience to be fantastic. I was placed with a loving and caring host family in downtown Oaxaca. The Spanish instruction that I received at the local university was excellent. After my classes, I enjoyed participating in a variety of cultural experiences, including cooking classes, dance classes, and tours of famous museums and historical sites. All of these activities were guided by Sol’s onsite director, Layla Merloo, who was resourceful in every sense of the word. With her guidance, and Sol’s expertise, I not only improved my Spanish, but left the experience a richer person. I had such a positive experience that I sought to explore the option of taking some of my students to Oaxaca. Brent and Esteban, the owners of Sol, created a personalized program for high school students in my school district. For a very affordable price, my students were afforded the opportunity to visit a new culture, experience their language, food, customs and history, all the while creating lifelong memories. I was thrilled when a number of my students signed up for the trip. They found it to be just as exceptional an experience as I did, with several of them remarking that “it was the defining moment” of their high school experience. All of the students indicated that they felt safe at all times, and I was pleased to find that every aspect of their trip was expertly organized by Brent and Layla. The experience was an emotional one for them, so much so that the students did not want to go home when the trip concluded. For my students, some of whom even have roots in Oaxaca, the experience was so powerful that it left an indelible mark on their identity. You would be wise to consider offering your students such an experience. I recommend Sol wholeheartedly. They are the consummate professionals in this field. Their sole (pardun the pun) desire is to help young people experience new cultures, and gain from it. "
